Ace UK

The Alliance for Beverage Cartons and the Environment (ACE) UK represents the leading manufacturers of food and drink cartons for the UK and European markets.

ACE UK’s objective is to promote food and drink cartons as a renewable, fully recyclable and low carbon packaging choice and delivers environmental initiatives in the UK on behalf of our members, including running the industry’s food and drink carton recycling programme.

Cartonnages et articles de papeterie (CAP)

The Federation of Cardboard and Paper Products brings together converters of flat cardboard for folding cartons, corrugated cardboard, tubes and angles, and manufacturers of paper-cardboard stationery products. It manages the national collective agreement for cardboard, defends paper and cardboard packaging, ensures economic, regulatory and technological monitoring of the sector, and participates in the sector’s training bodies.

Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI)

 The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) is the leading trade association representing the UK’s Paper-based Industries, comprising paper and board manufacturers and converters, corrugated packaging producers, makers of soft tissue papers, and collectors of paper for recycling.

European Paper Packaging Alliance (EPPA)

The European Paper Packaging Alliance (EPPA) is a not-for-profit association representing food and food service packaging companies from across Europe. EPPA’s priority is to provide paper-based low carbon and health-safe products with a low environmental impact and improved recycling solutions to the European population. EPPA supports science-based EU policies that foster sustainable and efficient use of resources, and recognises the major role that packaging, as an essential infrastructure, can play in that common objective.

EUROPEN

EUROPEN aims to achieve a fully accessible European market for packaging and packaged products, while protecting the product and the environment.  It conveys expert information, data, opinions and policy options to its members and EU policy stakeholders about the environmental, economic and social aspects of sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, distribution and end of life of packaging and packaged products.

INCPEN

Incpen members are an influential group of international and British companies who have a common interest in packaging and sustainability. They include raw material suppliers, packaging manufacturers, and manufacturers and retailers of packaged products.

ISCC*

The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is an independent multi-stakeholder initiative and leading certification system supporting sustainable, fully traceable, deforestation-free and climate-friendly supply chains. This certification contributes to environmentally, socially and economically sustainable production.

The Sustainable Packaging Coalition® is a membership-based collaborative that believes in the power of industry to make packaging more sustainable.  Its mission is to bring sustainable packaging stakeholders together to catalyze actionable improvements to packaging systems and lend an authoritative voice on issues related to packaging sustainability.

‘Big Steps to increase Paper Can Recyclability’,  March 2023 Sonoco Sustainability Whitepaper

This whitepaper details information about recycling trends in Europe and the US, as well as how the use of rigid paper cans can reduce the amount of waste to landfill.

The white paper advises that with 53.5 million metric tons of paper packaging in Europe being used to transport consumer and industrial products, paper packaging recycling is more important than ever before.

The report also highlights the important role of rigid paper cans in the food and drink industry, detailing how they can be used to protect high-quality food products while maintaining shelf life and increasing shelf appeal.

The success of DRS (deposit return scheme) and consistent collections, due to be introduced in the next few years, will be reliant on the public changing their behaviours and adapting to a more rigorous and complicated waste and recycling system.
