Sonoco’s IML design for Tartex wins IMDA Best of Show
For Tartex’ vegan pâté “Brotzeit”, Sonoco combines in-mould labelling (IML) and PermaSafe technologies in a premium packaging solution.
The IMDA Awards recognise the industry’s best IML packaging, in-mould decorated (IMD) durable products and labels in various categories. At the 2017 IMDA Awards, Sonoco won the judges over with its packaging for Tartex and received two awards: the Gold Award for Best Injection (IML) Package and the overall Best of Show Award.
According to the judges: “[…] This plastic package connotes natural flavor with a graphic design and shape that mimics a wooden barrel. The design is conveyed via barrier in-mold labels that deliver more than premium graphics with strong shelf appeal”.
With an eye for detail and consumers’ needs
The packaging for Tartex spreads alludes to the organic origins of the ingredients. The faceted shape of the new 125g containers replicates a tiny barrel made from wooden slats. The IML-label features a special matt finish developed by Sonoco for a natural, paper-like feel.
Designed for maximum convenience, the Tartex packaging’s user-friendly lid is easy to open. After removing an individual portion, consumers can easily reclose the packaging with the IML lid. A die-cut aluminium membrane seals the packaging before the first use.
A real keeper
Tartex has been producing 100 percent plant-based spreads for the last 70 years. In 2015, the company decided on Sonoco’s IML and PermaSafe technology for their product range “Brotzeit”, which is available in 19 different flavours. “We closely collaborated with our customer, Allos Hof-Manufaktur, to customise a package based on our PermaSafe containers,” explained Andreas Rothschink, European Sales Director Plastic Packaging at Sonoco. “PermaSafe packaging is lightweight and attractive, and offers a new and eye-catching alternative to the traditional metal cans often used for similar foods.”
